Who is eligible to use ReThreads?

Everyone! There is no intake process or minimum income required to shop at ReThreads. Come visit and get what you need!

What's the shopping experience at ReThreads like?

ReThreads functions like a smaller version of a thrift store…except everything is absolutely free! When you come visit, you are invited to scope out what we have available in store and try on garments in our dressing room. Any questions? Our manager will be happy to assist you in finding what you need!

If able, please bring your own bag or box!

When is ReThreads open?

Tuesday - Saturday: 10 AM–2 PM

"One of my favorite acts of kindness came on a snowy afternoon. One man was about to leave after not finding winter clothing big enough to fit him. Just then, another man came in wearing a jacket way too big for him. Within a few minutes, the smaller man gave the bigger man his jacket before finding one for himself. They were both able to leave ReThreads with perfectly fitting winter jackets. It was such a small moment in time but it was incredible to witness something meaningful happen between two strangers."

- Former ReThreads Manager

"ReThreads strives to provide a safe space for people to shop without judgment. To boost confidence and self-esteem. To make room for preferences and choice. To build community."

- ReThreads Employee

"There are many interactions with patrons when it is so clear how important clothes are as a way to express dignity and individuality."

- Former ReThreads Manager

Volunteer

We’d love to have you volunteer with us!

At ReThreads, we can use an extra set of hands to help with stocking shelves, cleaning the store, greeting patrons, and organizing donations.

Donate Items

Do you have new or gently used items you are getting rid of?

ReThreads is frequently in need of clothing (especially men’s), footwear, household goods, small appliances, diapers, and personal hygiene items.

Drop-Off Location: 511 6th Street (Note, we request that you drop off larger donations at Rainbow’s End Thrift Store across the street as we have more room to organize items).

Digging Deeper

Background information about ReThreads

Why do we need ReThreads?

Most assistance programs, such as SNAP benefits, do not account for clothing, household necessities, baby clothes, appliances, and other household expenses outside of food. For many individuals and families experiencing poverty, the option to buy new kitchenware or winter clothes simply does not exist. Items, such as a much-needed saucepan or a winter coat, do not make the cut when dire financial decisions must be made.

How does ReThreads meet needs?

Rethreads meets needs by providing people access to basic essentials for FREE, enabling them to have their needs met without having to choose between one item over another.

On a deeper level, ReThreads also strives to honor the dignity of each individual that walks through our doors. ReThreads is set up like a store: instead of receiving a pre-packaged box of items, patrons can peruse the shelves to find what they need and want! We recognize that having agency is as important to our patrons as the items themselves. When a patron finds items - whether it be clothing or household decor - that suits their unique personality and needs, it can help boost self-esteem, restore confidence, and develop a sense of ownership.

What can I do to help ReThreads?

ReThreads is always looking for quality donations of clothing and shoes (men/women/children/babies), kitchen wares and utensils, small kitchen appliances, toilet paper and toiletries, diapers, and other household items.

Due to staffing and space limitations, all donations to ReThreads are processed through Rainbow’s End Thrift Store. As such, to give to ReThreads, please drop off your new or gently-used items in allocated donation zone in the alley behind Rainbow’s End in Alamosa. Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday, from 10am – 3pm. Please inform staff that you want your donation to go specifically to ReThreads!
