Social Enterprises

Social enterprises are businesses that exist to support a social justice cause with its profits. Four businesses (a coffee shop and three thrift stores) in the San Luis Valley make up La Puente’s Social Enterprises network; all proceeds go to La Puente Home, Inc. to be put toward client services and related projects.

These social enterprises bolster economic activity, create a sense of community, provide meaningful jobs, and offer workforce development opportunities, while communicating the mission of La Puente to residents and visitors alike.

About Milagros Coffee House

Milagros, located in downtown Alamosa, is a full-service coffee shop that supports La Puente Home, Inc. through the sale of food, beverages, and locally crafted goods—100% of net profits go directly toward client services. Committed to being a welcoming space for everyone, Milagros invites both paying and non-paying patrons to enjoy its wifi, public restroom, dining area, and “Pay It Forward” program so all neighbors can share in a warm beverage.

Alongside organic coffee and fresh breakfast and lunch offerings, Milagros helps build community while raising awareness of local needs and the mission of La Puente.

The shop also serves as a hub for local creativity, with rotating art shows that feature the work of San Luis Valley artists.

Interested in displaying your art work? Want to order catering? Hoping to use the space to host an event or musical performance? Call 719-589-9299 or email milagros@lapuente.net for more information!

About Rainbow's End Thrift Stores

Rainbow’s End Thrift Stores are locally founded, community-operated businesses that generate revenue through the resale of second-hand goods—100% of net profits directly support client services at La Puente. Beyond funding critical programs, the stores provide affordable essentials, employment and job training opportunities, and outreach assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis situations.

By donating or shopping at one of Rainbow’s End’s three locations, you help conserve resources, reduce waste, and strengthen the social fabric of your community. Every purchase and donation plays a role in supporting neighbors in need while promoting environmental responsibility.

Why do we need social enterprises?

In an isolated region with few resources, patronage of our coffee shop and thrift stores is an everyday way for community members to support the work of La Puente while also investing in their town’s quality of life. The social enterprises of La Puente play a key role in economic activity in the downtown districts of Alamosa, Monte Vista, and Center, CO. The four businesses donate their proceeds to alleviate hunger and homelessness within the San Luis Valley by way of the services La Puente offers to those in need.

"Milagros is a place where I’ve always been able to grab a cup of coffee and where the staff have given me space to unwind. It’s helped me feel human and equal, keeping my confidence and my spirits high."

- Community Member Experiencing Homelessness

"I am the type of person who gives away what I’m able to. So when I saw Rainbow’s End operating with a spirit of giving instead of taking, it was just beautiful."

- Community Member

"So as we endure the hiccups of life, we serve love through ordinary things and extraordinary commitment to and from the donors, staff, customers and community members that make us a caring and unique family."

- Rainbow’s End Manager

Pay-It-Forward

Cover the cost of a coffee or menu item for our neighbors in need!

Milagros’ Pay-It-Forward program enables customers to cover the cost of a menu item for community members without financial means. When purchasing your own food or beverage, simply ask the barista to add an extra amount to be put toward our “pay it forward” program! A recipient shared that being able to grab a free cup of coffee has helped her feel "human and equal" during a difficult time.

The Pay-It-Forward program is part of our mission to provide a welcoming and compassionate space for the entire community. Anyone, whether or not they are a paying customer, can utilize our restrooms, browse on our free wifi, meet up with a friend, select items from our mini food pantry, or simply relax inside.
